So this past Tuesday Michelle and I had a great trip up to the garment district in LA to go fabric shopping. I honestly had no idea of what I was getting onto. It was blocks upon blocks of textiles, fabrics and an equally as large area devoted to whole sale merchandise. I had the greatest time digging through rolls and rolls of fabric looking for the perfect one. We found stuff to finish up our Mens winter 2009 and to start on our SS 10 lines as well as our up coming showcase with ADIDAS ORIGINALS. Be on the look out for the pics from the mens photo shoot which should be done in the next couple of weeks.
M. Dot Clothing line can now be found at two different boutiques in san diego. The Basement Boutique and other various locations in San Diego
The Basement Boutique is a very cute hip spot in mission beach, that has some great steals. You can find a bunch of unique one of a kind jewelery, in which are made by local girls!!! Look out for it the next time you go down to the beach. It's that Bright Hot Pink Store across the street from the Mission Restaurant.... or stop in and say hello to me on Fridays, Sundays, or Tuesdays!!!!
As a designer, you are always asked what is your inspiration, where do your ideas come from, etc... My inspiration, came from the underestimated Filipino Fashion. The fabrics that come from the Philippines are beautiful. There is a lot of fabric out there that is so detailed and beautiful making every garment darling. Who inspired me the most was Monsanto Designs, a Filipino designer. Fabric has Character! “In touching a piece of cloth, it is necessary to feel the special characteristics of the fabric. Fabric invariably answers to the touch. Touch is with your hands, drape it over your body, feel the nature of the material and ascertain its characteristic. Then the cloth itself gives me instruction on what is the most suited to that fabric and the kind of draping and form that desires for itself.”
So I was asked the other day what inspires me in fashion. So I decided to put together a few photos. Some are pics of people whose style have made an impression on me. The others are the new influences that blending with the old to create something very special. This project is going to be very very fun and I'm excited to be sharing it with you.
